This must be the summer dull days of high temperatures and high humidity. Actually it lasts 12 months but the last few days, since the big rain, have been a strong reminder. It was still 87 degrees when we went to bed last evening. We awoke this morning to almost cloudless skies and 85 degrees. By 8:00AM it was 86 in the shade were our sensor is located. It would be over 90 in the open sunshine.
We went to Guam this afternoon. We are both somewhat excited, more at the thought of getting out than about where we are.
It seemed strange leaving Chuuk after six months on the island. It was almost culture shock to get off the plane in Guam and see a modern city with all its amenities. Elder and Sister Ricks were on the plane with us coming from Kosrae. The Lewis’s were also there. When we arrived in Guam we were met by Elder Hopoate who then drove us to the Hilton Hotel. There we met Elder and Sister Riding.
We went out to Outback Steak House to eat. I didn’t think the food there was as good as it is in Layton, but it was much better than anything we have eaten in Chuuk. After dinner we went shopping at K-Mart. The amount of stuff in that store was amazing. We were supposed to pick up some flash drives for Josie but they didn’t have any of the inexpensive ones so we’ll check the mall on Monday night.

We didn’t sleep well in the hotel room with the controlled temperatures. I guess we have become too accustomed to our bed in Chuuk.
We attended Church in the Barrigada Branch. It seemed strange to hear the services in English. The branch has over 600 members and needs to be split.
We attended a social in the evening with all the Missionary couples, Elder and Sister Hopoate, and President and Sister Dowdle. It was nice to listen as each couple gave a short synopsis of their lives. Of the six missionary couple 4 had seven children. The Dowdle’s will spend the next two days in CES training with us so we will have more opportunities to interface with them.
