Fishing
Update
June 28- July 2, 2010
The weather is always a factor in fishing. Monday was filled with sunshine and calm winds. Pink and chum salmon were in abundance and most of the guests had a great first day of fishing. Tuesday the rains came accompanied by winds and waves. The inclement weather lasted until Thursday and only the hearty logged lots of fishing hours.
Salmon fishing dropped off through the middle of the week partly because of weather and partly because the fish that were here early in the week moved on. By Friday the pinks and chums were back in good numbers at the log dump and grey cabin. Both species are large fish this year and especially the chums are busting lines and tearing up tackle.
Winds and high tides reduced the halibut catch during the early part of the week but by Thursday the conditions had improved. The last two days of fishing produced some great halibut catches with several fish in the 80 pound range and many limits containing 20- to 30-pound fish. It seemed that when the currents were slow enough to keep your bait on the bottom you could catch halibut. After two weeks it looks like this is going to be a good halibut year.
