Fishing Update
August 29 - September 4, 2010

It has been an amazing week for weather. The winds continued light and variable and the waters were a land-lovers dream in smoothness. There were days when it seemed that a mirror finish had fastened itself to the waters making a large looking glass which reflected the mountain grandeur and spacious skies. The leaves about the treeline have begun the transition into the fall yellow colors and when the skies clear the nip of fall is evident in the breeze.

We had more limits of silvers taken this week that any other week this summer. The fish were in schools and the best bite seemed to come between noon and 2:00 PM, and again about the time people we getting ready to head in for dinner. One boat reported having 4 fish on at once, landing them all, and they weighed about 15 pounds each. That has been a major theme of the silvers this summer--big fish and irregular biting times. Several guests said it was their best silver catching experience in about 5 years.

So much time was spent having fun with silvers that time fishing for halibut was reduced. Still those who put in the time had little trouble finding fish. Some boats limited self-guided every day before going out and taking limits of silvers. Even those guests who just enjoyed being out on the water together, with catching fish as a secondary activity, caught enough fish to make any novice happy.

One more week and we return to our homes for the winter, all accept Doc and Linda. They are headed on another 18 month mission. This time they will be in the country of Vanuatu, just west of Fiji. They will be doing a little different fishing most of the time but knowing Doc he'll find a way to test the fishing out among the islands.
