Fishing Updates
August 9, 2009

This week the silvers made a much better showing than the week before.  Although I would not say they are what we would expect for “normal” they are coming in stronger numbers daily.  The Alaska Department of Fish and Game silver forecast was for a better run than last year and we hope the prediction holds true.

Halibut fishing is still excellent! We had several trophy fish caught and one bigger than trophy class lost next to the side of the boat.  You always remember the one that got away and I suspect that one will live in their stories for years to come.

Weather has turned colder with more overcast days, and Friday we had rain all day. The grass has started to turn and the feeling of fall is in the air.  With more rain and cooler days remember to bring clothing to layer to keep warm.  We will keep the drying room warm and dry in the event your layers are not adequate.

Fly fishing is at its peak in all the streams.  Pinks and Chums and Dolly Varden are the most frequent hook ups. Any egg patterned fly will help you find success.  We have flies available for purchase at the lodge’s Trading Post for your fly fishing pleasure.  Spin casting along our stream has also been a fun after dinner activity this week. The pinks have turned and are not good to keep but are still fun to catch and release.
