Fishing
Updates
August 23, 2009
This had to be the windiest week I can remember in my 11 summers in Excursion Inlet. At times the water was barely fishable; we found refuge up Excursion Inlet. And it rained hard most of the week.
The bright spot in the week was the Silvers! This is the peak of the Silver run. We had a couple of days that were slower, but we had a lot of boats getting their limit. A lot of 14 – 16 lb fish with a few 18 lbs. At times they were caught on the surface, and at other times more than 50 feet down. Our CEO Frank Gaughan proved he had some Silver catching abilities on Tuesday his boat brought in several nice Silvers with one weighing over 18 lbs. Frank is a humble guy he will tell you that he just drove the boat and Ron Jibson did all the baiting of the hooks, either way they had the fish to prove they knew what they were doing out there.
Halibut were really slow this week. We had some nice fish brought in on Thursday and Friday, but for the most part we were limited in where we could fish due to windy weather and the halibut catch showed it.
The long term forecast looks a lot better for next week, I hope it is correct. Just a reminder if any wants a fishing update don’t hesitate to call or email. Lodge phone = 907.723.6000 and my cell is 801.558.2351 and my email is Kelly@docwarners.com
