Fishing
Updates
April 27, 2009
We arrived in Excursion Inlet by float plane operated by Ward Air on Saturday the 25th of April. We found the lodge in good shape. Winter is just releasing its grip, the peaks of the Chilkat Range are white and it looks like there is a lot of snow on the peaks. We have seen a few commercial trollers out looking for kings, making us anxious to get a boat in the water and try our luck.
Those dock guys are always playing tricks on everyone, well there last trick of the year for 2008 was they left some oreo cookies in the dumpster at the bottom of the stairs. The dumpster is one we built out of plywood. The builder of the dumpster did a good job, I think it is safe to say that is bear proof, look close at the photo and you should be able to see the bear teeth marks on the outer edges of the dumpster, and the second photo is the bag of oreos untouched.
The morning we arrived we saw a pod of orca whales moving up the inlet, we have also seen several humpback whales, and some sea lions. The bears still think it is winter, we have not seen any sign of bear activity yet.
Peggy with Doc Warner’s Travel sent me an email today; it was to announce that Alaska Airlines is now going to start charging for the 1st checked baggage. If you purchased your airline ticket after May 1st and if you are traveling after July 1st there will be a $15.00 charge for the 1st bag and the 2nd bag will be charged at $25.00.
If you have any questions as you plan for this summer’s fishing trip please send me an email at kelly@docwarners.com or call the lodge any time (907) 723-6000.
