Fishing Updates
July 20-26

At week's end, Jon reported that he'd phoned his wife to check in and that during the visit, told her 'Honey, it only rained once.......but it never stopped!'.  He was right.  We were in raingear every day, with brief periods of relief but the fishers fished.

Tuesday morning, Dad Adams and his three sons were fishing for halibut between Porpoise and Pleasant Islands,  when Steve's pole bent over the gunnel, on the starboard side.  About 45 minutes later, with the help of his dad and brothers, and coaching and cheer-leading from the Chaseboat, they had a halibut slinged to the side of the boat.  Once at the dock, father and sons were all smiles when they saw the fish hanging and the scale registering the 130-pound catch!  What a great father and sons' memory made!

Later, in the rain, I mean week, Glenna, in boat #25, squealled as her salmon pole bent and danced in the holder.  She first had trouble against the muscle-fish getting the rod free but when she did, the fight was on!  Her husband chided, 'Quit screaming and reel it in!'  She snapped, 'I can't, my reel came off!'.  Evidently, she'd been inadvertently unfastening her reel during the morning and the strength of the fish was enough to pull the reel free from its bracket.  With the quick help and laughter of her mates, the reel was re-fastened and she landed her fish........a 13-lb. Silver salmon; a beauty!

That was one of an increasing number of silvers showing up on the fillet table.
