Fishing
Updates
June 29-July 5
This past week we enjoyed mostly flat calm days with little or no rain. Consequently, we have a few red-faced guests, and not from embarrassment.
Fishing continues to improve, too. We’ve still been catching some kings, although the latest technique is not one we’d recommend. One of our guest accidentally tripped the free-spool level while trying to land a nice king. The line went every which way and he had a tangled mess. However, our excited guest didn’t give up. No way! He just handled the line hand-over-hand for several minutes until he landed that 30-pound beauty. As I said, that’s not the method we prefer, but it worked. Congratulations!
Among the many halibut caught we had one that weighed 156 pounds. That was the big one for the week. Our guests continue to find plenty of halibut to bring home.
The other salmon are doing better, too. Pinks are showing up in significant numbers, and the Chum are increasing each week. We’re also taking increasing numbers of silvers, with the largest being 12 pounds. Overall, we had processed more fish by Wednesday night than we did all the previous week.
