Fishing
Updates
June 22-28
Fishing continues to improve. This past week we saw an increase in the number of Pink and Chum salmon caught. The Kings are also still here; their numbers aren’t huge, but the run seems to be lasting longer than normal. Our biggest King was 27 pounds. We are also starting to see a few Silvers. One guest brought in a 13-pounder. Its enough to keep everyone excited. Good places for the salmon have been the Log Dump and the Inlet (for kings).
Halibut fishing has been great. The largest of the week was 114 pounds. Pleasant Reef and the Inlet, above the cannery, have been good places for catching halibut.
The weather has been good and our guests have had plenty of fishing time. As is typical of Southeast Alaska, we had a few drizzly days, the kind that brings the salmon up and makes fishing exciting. So far, we have only had one day with small craft advisories. Our guest just tucked in the protected areas a little closer to the lodge and kept on fishing.
If you are coming to Doc Warner’s for the first time and you don’t see anyone at the airport to greet you, relax for a few minutes. We usually arrive by 1:30PM. So, your wait should be brief. Once we’re certain all our guests have arrived we’ll get the journey to the lodge underway.
