Fishing
Updates
June 7-13
Last week a guest on his way home said, “Things are about to change you can almost feel it, I think the next week’s guests will catch a lot of fish.”
On Tuesday that change took place. The water temperature jumped to 50 degrees and in one day we saw a big change in the fishing. We caught big halibut less than a mile from the dock, we saw our first King Salmon caught, and herring balls seemed to be everywhere.
We finished the week with two halibut over 100 lbs., several over 50 lbs., and two Kings. Rob caught the first Chum Salmon of the year, in front of Windy Creek. It weighed in at over 14 lbs. Last year the first Chum caught was on June 6th. On Friday the guests reported seeing large schools of what looked like salmon going under their boats while halibut fishing in Icy Strait. The weather this week was close to perfect, we had a windy day on Friday, and very little rain.
