Fishing Updates
Final Update for 2008

Many of you have called to inquire and offer congratulations regarding the arrival of Kelly and Mary’s new baby boy.  Both Mary and baby are doing well and we are pleased to welcome Jake into our family.  I had to make an early departure from the lodge because Jake was in a hurry to get here and I didn’t want to miss his arrival.  So, sorry about the delays in the fishing report.

Our final week, Sept 7-13 seemed to be the best fishing week of the season for Silvers.  The salmon catch was 9.7 per guest.  I have a suspicion that the silver salmon have begun to evolve, they are getting smarter.  As soon as the fishermen start to head home for the summer the silvers show up and in big numbers.

The theme for the summer was RAIN.  The month of July saw 4 inches more rain than normal.  Though I can’t remember a day without rain, those who kept track tell me there were 4 days with no rain.  August’s rain free day count wasn’t much better.  Good raingear proved to be a most valuable item.

Our guests continue to be the best in the world with amazing attitudes.  Just an example, we had a boat with motor problems down past the grey cabin area.  When Brett and I arrived to provide assistance, they were holding up a 70 lb halibut and grinning from ear to ear.  “We decided to make lemonade out of lemons,” was the comment I heard as we came along side.  Instead of just waiting for use to come and rescue them, they tossed out their anchor and started to fish for halibut.  I think that attitude is the real secret to having a successful fishing trip, we all hope for that 500lb halibut, but in reality we are not going to catch a trophy fish every time we wet a line.  It is important to have a good time no matter what comes in the boat.

We look for another fun and successful year in 2009 and look forward to fishing with you again.  Happy holidays and many dreams of big fish.
