Fishing
Update
July 9-16, 2011
Record Week! I think it is safe to say we have never had a bigger fish week at Doc Warner's. Everyday there were lots of pink salmon, chums, and silvers. And the halibut was unreal. There was so much fish that every available freezer tray was used in four out of the five days. We also had to run the power all night, every night of the week in hopes of freezing the fish. In the end we ended up shipping out almost four tons of fillets last week.
The weather last week dictated where the fishing took place on Monday and Tuesday. As is typical here, when it is sunny, the winds pick up in the afternoon. On those two days some tried their hand at Mary's and some headed up the inlet for protection. Later in the week people made the long drive out to Mary's for the halibut. The peak of the fishing was Wednesday where we had two fish over 150, three over 100+, and at least a dozen in the 60 to 90 pound range.
Most boats continued to limit on salmon daily as well. In many cases two or three boats would return with their salmon limit before the last boat had left the dock in the morning. The big silvers this week were 12 and 13 pounds. We also had one king come in at about 10 pounds.
All in all it was a super and fulfilling week at Doc Warner's. I hope to see you "reel" soon so you can drop in a line.
