Transportation
Juneau-to-Doc Warner's Transfer
Your transportation between Juneau and Doc Warner's is arranged
for you by Doc Warner's staff. You are either flown in or transported
by a catamaran depending upon which week you sign up to go
to Doc Warner's. You should expect to take the catamaran unless
notified by Doc Warner's.
If you are scheduled to take the boat, Gray Line of Alaska's
motor coach will pick you up at the airport and transport you
to Allen Marine in Auke Bay. There you'll board one of their
whale watching cruise ships. Once on board you can ride in the
enclosed observation area or walk around outside and enjoy the
spectacular view of the pristine wilderness and abundant wildlife
of the area. Allen Marine will bring you to our dock in about
2 hours. At the end of the week, Allen Marine and Gray Line of
Alaska will transport you back to the Juneau airport.
If you are scheduled to fly, you will fly from the Juneau airport
to Excursion Inlet in one of their bush planes. The trip takes
about 20 minutes. You'll take off from the airport, turn and
head west over Admiralty Island. On the right side of the plane
you may be able to see Point Retreat with its white light house
on the point.
From there you'll cross Lynn Canal. To the north is Haines and Skagway, where
the Chilkat trail begins. Depending on the weather you'll either fly along
the coast of the Chilkat Peninsula then turn north into Excursion Inlet or,
if it is sunny, you'll fly over the Chilkat Peninsula and down into Excursion
Inlet.
